Philippines army air strike accidentally kills 11 soldiers

The Philippine military says it accidentally killed at least 10 of its own soldiers in an air strike aimed at armed men who have laid siege to the city of Marawi for more than a week now.

Wednesday’s raid was meant to be targeting the Maute group, which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.

The government has not yet managed to retake control of the situation.

Al Jazeera’s Jamela Alindogan reports from Marawi in Mindanao in the southern Philippines.
