Zhong Liping is a village doctor in China’s remote southwest. Born into the country’s Generation Z, she returned to her birthplace – Yanyin Village – to work in the local clinic after she graduated from medical school. Today her job is to look after more than 1,800 elderly villagers, primarily of Lahu, Hani or Dai ethnicity. Although they don’t speak Mandarin, she is able to communicate with them in local dialects. In addition to outpatient work, she also makes regular house calls and gives lectures on health and wellness. To the senior citizens of her home village, she is as caring as she is with her own parents.
