NSW Coronavirus Update: Testing has shown that there are now a total of 15 cases of COVID-19 with the Omicron variant in New South Wales. NSW Health says results on further likely cases are due later today.
NSW recorded 1 death and 286 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
The man who died was aged in his 60s and lived in south-eastern Sydney. He died at St George Hospital. NSW Health says he received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions.
There are currently 148 COVID-19 cases in hospital, with 26 people in intensive care, five of whom require ventilation. There were 66,671 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 68,435.
Of the 286 cases reported today, 82 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 51 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, 45 are from Sydney LHD, 40 are from Western Sydney LHD, 18 are from Northern Sydney LHD, nine are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, eight are from Central Coast LHD, seven are from Hunter New England LHD, seven are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, seven are from Western NSW LHD, three are from Northern NSW LHD, two are from Mid North Coast LHD, two are from Murrumbidgee LHD, one is from Southern NSW LHD, and four are yet to be assigned to a LHD.

NSW Health Statement: “NSW Health is continuing to investigate an outbreak of COVID-19 cases with the Omicron variant at Regents Park Christian School, Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym Villawood, and St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School in Regents Park. There have now been five cases confirmed as being the Omicron variant of concern linked to these venues in addition to a confirmed case in the ACT who likely acquired their infection at the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym Villawood. Genome sequencing is currently underway on a number of other COVID-19 cases linked to these settings. One of the confirmed Omicron cases is a student at St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School in Regents Park who attended the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym in Villawood on Saturday November 27. All year three and year four students and teachers at St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School have been deemed close contacts and asked to self-isolate. Contact tracing and genome sequencing is underway on several cases of COVID-19 identified in the school community. Anyone who attended the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym on Saturday 27 November between 9am and 4.30pm is a close contact who must immediately get tested and isolate according to NSW Health guidelines. People should continue to monitor for symptoms and if any symptoms occur, get tested. To date, there have been no cases with the Omicron variant admitted to hospital in NSW for treatment of COVID-19. All travellers arriving in NSW who have been in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini and Malawi during the 14-day period before their arrival in NSW must enter hotel quarantine for 14 days, irrespective of their vaccination status. Anyone who has already arrived in NSW who has been in any of the eight African countries within the previous 14 days must immediately get tested and isolate for 14 days, and call NSW Health on 1800 943 553. All passengers must monitor for symptoms and if any symptoms occur, get tested again. Any passengers arriving from overseas aged 18 years and over who are not fully vaccinated go directly into 14-day mandatory hotel quarantine.”
