Hospital workers have released a cover of Mariah Carey’s 1993 hit ‘Anytime You Need a Friend’ to raise money for the NHS.
The Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS staff choir – featuring over 100 doctors, nurses and other workers – sang together using video conferencing.
The song has proved popular with tens of thousands of views and Mariah Carey herself endorsing the track, saying it brought tears to her eyes.
“I can’t express enough the amount of joy and positivity this has actually brought to the choir themselves during this Covid crisis,” said Yvonne Farquharson, founder of Breathe Arts Health Research, which runs the choir.
“It’s something we provide weekly to provide a sense of stress relief and community for NHS staff across Guy’s in St Thomas’ Hospitals.”
On the endorsement from the singer, she said: “It was a really incredible moment for all of us and when they’re dealing with so much stress day in, day out, to have this incredibly positive news story that’s kind of happening every day at the moment for them is wonderful.”
