Global News published this video item, entitled “New York downpour: Heavy rains bring catastrophic flooding in US Northeast” – below is their description.
Torrential downpours pounded the U.S. Northeast on July 9 and 10, bringing catastrophic flooding across the region, where rains have washed out roadways, overwhelmed rivers, forced numerous rescues by boat and caused at least one fatality, officials said.
“It’s only the second time ever that the National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency, the last time was Hurricane Ida. My friends, this is the new normal,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said during a Monday news conference. “And we in government, working with our partners on the ground, have to work with our communities to build up resiliency, to be prepared for the worst, because the worst continues to happen.”
Some 13 million Americans were under flood watches and warnings from Eastern New York state to Boston and Western Maine to the northeast, where up to 7 inches (18 cm) of rain were expected to fall, the National Weather Service said in its forecast, after storms that began over the weekend inundated rivers and streams.
