New FINA policy restricts transgender athletes from swimming in women’s events

Global News published this video item, entitled “New FINA policy restricts transgender athletes from swimming in women’s events” – below is their description.

FINA, the world governing body of aquatic sports, has adopted a new “gender inclusion policy” that prevents many trans women from competing in women’s events.

FINA says that anyone born male who wants to compete as a woman must exhibit low or suppressed levels of testosterone – a rule already in place in many sports.

In addition, the athletes must have transitioned before the onset of puberty or the age of 12, whichever is later. Redmond Shannon explains what else the organization is proposing, and the backlash to the plan.
