Onion prices in the Philippines are now some of the highest in the world after a shortage of the vegetable and inflation sent prices skyrocketing. But local farmers say they aren’t benefiting from this because the president and agriculture secretary Ferdinand Marcos Jnr has approved onion imports, an ill-timed move that coincided with the local February harvest, exacerbating the onion crisis.
