The murder of a seven-year-old girl in Mexico has increased outrage at violence against women nationwide. She was kidnapped from her school, raped and then strangled.
Protesters are demanding that the government do more to implement protocols that, on paper, would provide protection for women.
However, they say the authorities themselves sometimes are the abusers, and those women who are far from the urban centres are more at risk.
Al Jazeera’s John Holman reports from Ecatepec, Mexico, on one of the latest protests demanding government action.
