Health Secretary Matt Hancock told BBC’s Andrew Marr that herd immunity is not the government’s ‘goal’ or policy.
Hancock was forced to clarify the issue after a press conference held by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, with the Chief Scientific Advisor on Thursday.

Hancock was appearing on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show on the morning of Sunday 15 March, after receiving strong criticism for the use of the phrase herd immunity on Thursday before. Scientists argued that this strategy – bearing in mind the lack of knowledge of the novel coronavirus – would be dangerous, owing to many unknown elements.
