Vermont Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy questioned Facebook’s policies surrounding a video posted to the social media platform by former Donald Trump advisor Steve Bannon during a Senate Judiciary Committee with CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday. In the video, Bannon openly discussed beheading FBI Director Christopher Wray and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci. “What do you do when hundreds of thousands of people see a threat to go murder somebody?” Leahy asked of Zuckerberg, who said the content was flagged and removed. The Facebook CEO added that if someone had multiple offences the account would be removed. The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee was questioning Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg over decisions made by both social media platforms regarding content moderation during the 2020 US election. Since the presidential election on Nov. 3, Twitter and Facebook have flagged multiple posts by users, including President Donald Trump, who have made unsubstantiated claims of widespread election fraud.
