Global News published this video item, entitled “Manitobans calling for justice for MMIWG and action on addiction issues, await Kinew’s first move” – below is their description.
Manitoba voters cast their ballots on Tuesday night choosing Wab Kinew as premier-designate to lead the province. Kinew is set to make history as Manitoba’s first First Nations premier. During his acceptance speech, Kinew reinforced his dedication to addressing addiction issues, affordability, and improvements to health care.
“If you decide to go to work, our government will make sure there is a good job waiting for you. If you decide to get treatment for cancer, our government will make sure you get the best treatment right here in Manitoba. Today is proof of what we can accomplish when we work together.” Kinew declared.
Southern Chiefs Organization (SCO) Grand Chief Jerry Daniels said he’s hoping premier-designate Kinew will make searching the landfill for the remains of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, a top priority.
“We heard that there’s funding on the federal government made available, and I think this needs to happen immediately,” Daniels stated. In addition to short-term solutions, like a search of landfills, long-term solutions need to be considered. “People need to know they can’t be putting our people there in the landfill.”
