Kanye West has tweeted that he’s running for US president in the election on November 3 2020.
He’s just released a single and it’s not the first time the rapper has claimed that he’s aiming for the White House. He stood on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2015 and said he was running for president in 2020.
But could West actually enter the presidential race in 2020? And what would he have to do to make it a possibility?
West already passes the first obstacle for running for president as stated in the US Constitution. It says a president must be an American citizen, be 35 or older, and have lived in the US for 14 years. West ticks all those boxes – he was born in Atlanta, Georgia, he’s 43, and he lives in California.
But there are a fair few more hurdles to jump over before West can say he is officially running for president – and there are questions about whether he has the time before the election and the support or resources to do it.
