Kamala Harris has used her first speech after being named as Joe Biden’s vice presidential nominee to hammer Donald Trump’s record of tackling coronavirus and speak about her own family’s immigrant backstory.
The Californian senator appeared alongside Mr Biden at a campaign event for the first time since the Tuesday announcement as the pair both spoke in Wilmington, Delaware – Mr Biden’s hometown.
Ms Harris, 55, said she was “incredibly honoured” to have been selected to join the Democratic Party’s presidential ticket and was “ready to get to work”.
Much of the speech was spent going after the Trump administration’s record on handling the Covid-19 crisis, widely seen as one of the central issues in the November 3 election.
