Former US vice president Joe Biden took his presidential campaign to Texas on Monday, one day before residents head to the polls to vote in the state’s primary elections on Super Tuesday. #SuperTuesday #JoeBiden #AmyKlobuchar #PeteButtigieg #DemocraticPrimary
Emboldened by his win in South Carolina on Saturday, he thanked African American voters who propelled him foreward in that state’s primary race.
“Just a few days ago, the pundits declared my campaign dead. But then along came South Carolina and South Carolina had something to say about it. As I stand here today because of minority communities, I am very much alive because of you,” Biden said.
Biden spoke at Texas Southern University, a historically black college in Houston.
Shortly before Biden took the stage in Houston, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar ended her Democratic presidential campaign and planned to endorse Biden in an effort to unify moderate voters behind the former vice president’s White House bid.
Former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg also dropped out on Sunday, saying he no longer had a viable path to the nomination. He also plans to endorse Biden and appear with him at Monday night’s rally, according to two people familiar with his decision who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly about it.
