Racially motivated crimes have surged across Canada in recent years, with reports of such incidents surging by 30 per cent in 2020 alone.
Muslim Canadians have reportedly also been the most targeted group of hatred. In Edmonton, at least nine incidents in the last nine months have been reported, involving disturbing physical and verbal assaults directed mainly at Black, Muslim women wearing a hijab or burqa.
