Is it time to increase the GST? | ABC News

It’s been 20 years since the introduction of the GST, and another review has again urged us to reform the taxation system. State treasurers say the Goods and Services Tax is no longer fit for purpose, with revenue in decline since it came in. And, it’s during severe economic crashes (like the one we’re currently in) that that revenue crashes. Now, there are new calls to either raise the GST, broaden its base… or both.
