South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “India’s mango industry faces most devastating crop loss in 50 years because of extreme weather” – below is their description.
India, the world’s main mango producer, is bracing for a devastating crop loss in 2022 as farmers report a delayed harvest of the “king of fruits” because of heatwaves and unseasonal rains. Climate change is being blamed for damaging the mango harvest, with fruit falling to the ground early or trees infested with pests. The mango harvest this year in Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s main producing regions, is now expected to be less than half of the usual 4-5 million tonnes.
