Sir Patrick Vallance warned that complacency is the “biggest risk” following the introduction of a vaccine rollout, as he said any relaxation of restrictions could see a surge of Covid infections.

He told MPs: “The biggest risk is people think this is all over.”

Sir Patrick said there was “light at the end of the tunnel” but warned rolling out the vaccine across the population was a “long way off”.

He appeared alongside Professor Chris Whitty, Dr Jenny Harries and Dr June Raine before the Science and Technology Committee and Health and Social Care Committees as part of their joint inquiry into the coronavirus pandemic.
