NSW Flood: The Hunter River is expected to peak, just below the 14-metre levy. But if it does breach the bank, evacuations are likely.

People started leaving Singleton yesterday, with a real threat that the town could go under.

Other towns like Raymond Terrace and Maitland are also on a flood watch, but at this stage are just contending with low lying water.
