May 1 marks International Labor Day, a public holiday to honor laborers around the world.

“Happiness is achieved through hard work,” Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his 2018 New Year Address. On many occasions, Xi has encouraged working people from all walks of life to strive for a better life.

In 2018, Mi Xuemei, a representative of migrant workers, was elected as a deputy to the National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s top legislature. This gave her a chance to report in person to President Xi on the work and life of migrant workers.

When she reported the education issue for migrant children during the annual NPC session, Xi took it seriously and said, “When the people are unhappy, unsatisfied with something, we will work hard to solve their problems.”

Watch the video to learn more about how Xi and the Chinese government work actively to solve problems and protect the rights of the working people.
