How do robot vacuums know where to clean? – BBC News

BBC News published this video item, entitled “How do robot vacuums know where to clean? – BBC News” – below is their description.

Robot home appliances like automatic vacuum cleaners need to build up a map of where they live in order to move.

Typically LiDAR spatial technology, which has a spinning laser to determine distance, is used – but it has it’s shortcomings too, like high-performance ability and cost.

New software, developed by Slamcore, is being used so robots use visual imaging, rather than LiDAR, to make up a map of their surroundings.

Slamcore CEO Owen Nicholson said the next level of spatial intelligence is knowing how the world around you is shaped “from a geometry point of view”.

This film is from Click – the BBC’s weekly technology show.
