Guatemalan soldiers clashed with migrants from Honduras in eastern Guatemala near the border between the two countries on January 17. Footage shows a group managing to break through while most of the Hondurans were blocked. Reports say that they aimed to cross the Guatemalan border, reach Mexico and then enter the U.S.
Guatemala, a Central American country south of Mexico, is home to volcanoes, rainforests and ancient Mayan sites. The capital is Guatemala City. Antigua, west of the capital, contains preserved Spanish colonial buildings. Lake Atitlán, formed in a massive volcanic crater, is surrounded by coffee fields and villages.
