Global News published this video item, entitled “Heavy rain in Brazil causes deadly flooding” – below is their description.
Heavy rain that hit parts of southeastern Brazil, including the state of Minas Gerais, has left at least 15 people dead and thousands of people forced to leave their homes.
The Indigenous Pataxo-Hahahae tribe were among those who had to leave and have taken shelter in a local school, but due to muddy tailings-filled water from the Paraopeba River that flooded their village, the chief says they will be unable to live there anymore.
“There we lost homes, we lost toilets, we lost our medical centre, furniture. Our community is completely flooded,” chief Sucupira Pataxo Hahahae said.
There are also concerns some dams in the state bursting their banks, with officials watching water levels as more downpours could occur.
