The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Greece train crash: Police fire tear gas to disperse protesters in Athens” – below is their description.
Protests in Athens turned violent over the weekend, days after the country’s deadliest rail disaster.
Police outside the parliament fired tear gas and flash grenades to disperse protesters who hurled petrol bombs.
57 people were killed in a collision between a passenger and a freight train near Larissa on Tuesday.
Michalis Hasiotis, head of the chartered accountants’ union, told AFP that they felt “an immense anger”, blaming “the thirst for profit, the lack of measures taken for the passengers’ protection” for the disaster.
Hellenic Train, the rail company that has become the focus of some of the anger expressed in the wake of the crash, released a statement late Saturday defending its actions.
The station master implicated in the disaster was due in court on Sunday – a hearing postponed from the previous day – where he may face charges of negligent homicide.
