Global National: Oct. 29, 2023 | UN warns civil order starting to break down in Gaza

Global News published this video item, entitled “Global National: Oct. 29, 2023 | UN warns civil order starting to break down in Gaza” – below is their description.

The United Nations (UN) says civil order is starting to break down as Israel’s offensive in Gaza continues. It’s been reported that more aid trucks crossed into Gaza on Sunday, carrying food, medicine, and water. This brings the total number of trucks allowed through to 117 since they were first permitted nine days ago. However, this amount of aid only represents a quarter of what would typically be allowed on a single day. Daniele Hamamdijian reports.

Concerns increase for over 200 hostages taken by Hamas as Israel escalates its attacks in Gaza. The son of a Canadian woman believed to be among them is advocating for diplomacy, arguing that it gives his mother and other captives the best chance of being released. The primary goal of the Israeli military is still to bring hostages back. Mike Armstrong is in Jerusalem examining the tension between diplomatic efforts and military intervention.

Plus, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing criticism after he apologized for a social media post that blamed Israel’s military and security services for the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7. The criticism was led by a member of Israel’s emergency unity government and a former armed forces chief-of-staff. Netanyahu is being accused of playing the blame game. Redmond Shannon reports.

Amidst the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza, Global News received information about a team of Canadian Special Forces present in Israel. The team deployed after Oct. 7. Mercedes Stephenson provides more details about the deployment.

American former NHL hockey player Adam Johnson has died at the age of 29 following a “freak accident” during a game in England on Saturday, his club, the Nottingham Panthers, said. Johnson appeared in 13 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins between 2018 and 2020. Heidi Petracek reports.

In the Metis village of Saint Madeleine, Manitoba, the government burned down the community to make a pasture for cattle to graze. Every summer, descendants gather in the field to stay connected to their community and culture. With a new government in Manitoba and a First Nations premier, there’s hope that the land will be returned for next year’s gathering. Melissa Ridgen reports.

Also, fans of one of the most successful sitcom of all time are mourning the loss of a beloved star. American-Canadian actor Matthew Perry, famous for his role as Chandler Bing in Friends, was found dead at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday. He was 54 years old and had enjoyed a four-decade-long career in the entertainment industry. Touria Izri reports.
