While winter officially began in December, it took a few weeks for the weather to catch up, as strong storms are now wreaking havoc on the eastern provinces of Canada. Heidi Petracek looks at the mess and the misery in the Maritimes, Quebec and Ontario.

A polar vortex has descended over the Prairies, with some areas expected to see their lowest temperatures in decades. Heather Yourex-West looks at how people in Alberta and Manitoba are trying to stay warm and the dangers for unhoused people.

With most of Canada is finally being hit with winter weather, and more chilly conditions are in the cards. Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell explains what to expect across the country in the coming days.

In Ecuador, at least 10 people have been killed since a wave of violence erupted across the country, with President Daniel Noboa saying his nation is “at war” with nearly two dozen gangs. Mike Drolet explains how a once-peaceful haven has been brought to a violent standstill.

Plus, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has visited the occupied West Bank to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, a possible leader for Gaza once Israel’s war on Hamas ends. Crystal Goomansingh looks at what Blinken is trying to achieve and the protests over his visit.

As a highly developed country, Canada has the seventeenth-highest nominal per-capita income globally as well as the thirteenth-highest ranking in the Human Development Index. Its advanced economy is the tenth-largest in the world, relying chiefly upon its abundant natural resources and well-developed international trade networks.
