The German-owned carrier ship, Beluga Fortune, which was hijacked by Somalian pirates yesterday (24 October 2010) en route from UAE to South Africa, has been freed today, within 24 hours of its capture, with no ransom having been paid.
Beluga Shipping made the following statement:
“The cool-headed behavior … of the Beluga crew on board and the quick action of navy units .. left the pirates no other option than to give up their dream of a million (dollar) ransom and to flee,”
The ship had been captured off the coast of Kenya.
