FRENCH PAPERS – Weds. 25.01.17: According to a report in France’s Canard Enchainé, conservative presidential candidate François Fillon hired his wife to be his parliamentary assistant. The satirical paper reports that over an eight-year period she was paid 500,000 euros of taxpayers’ money. Though not illegal, it is frowned upon in France. Meanwhile, papers expect the gloves to come off in tonight’s final left-wing primary debate between Benoit Hamon and Manuel Valls.
