France experienced a fourth consecutive night of nationwide unrest as protests, looting and vandalism continued in response to the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy of north African descent by police during a traffic stop. Burning garbage bins and vehicles could be seen in cities across the country as fireworks were shot at police and buildings. The interior ministry said almost 1,000 people were arrested across France.
