BBC News published this video item, entitled “Five profiles of an election: How social media posts target US fictional voters – BBC Newsnight” – below is their description.
Earlier this year Americast and Newsnight launched the Undercover Voter project exploring what content US voters see on social media.
The BBC’s Disinformation & Social Media Correspondent Marianna Spring set up different accounts on the five main social media platforms including: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and TikTok.
Characters include ‘Populist Right’ Britney and ‘Progressive Left’ Emma that offer a snapshot into what similar real voters are being exposed to.
But how far have posts about conspiracy theories accelerated in the US midterms? And how responsible are the social media giants?
