South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Firefighter mourns colleagues after deadly fire and explosions at cargo depot in Bangladesh” – below is their description.
Firefighter Rakibul Hasan Bappy’s engine was the first to arrive at the scene of a huge fire at a cargo container depot in Bangladesh. But when a devastating explosion happened while they started fighting the blaze, he was the only member of the 15-man crew who was not killed, severely hurt or left missing. “I will never forget this until the day I die,” said Bappy as he recalled what happened during the June 4, 2022 disaster. Investigators now say the explosions may have been caused by the use of water to try and put out a fire on a shipment of hydrogen peroxide. Authorities blame facility operators for not informing firefighters about the fact that the volatile chemical was being stored in the depot near Chittagong.
