Drug addiction in the U.S. has skyrocketed since the COVID-19 pandemic. Driven largely by the spread of illicit fentanyl, 110,236 people died from drug overdoses in the United States in 2022, setting another staggering new record according to CDC data. This powerful drug can kill a person in doses as little as two milligrams and has become the leading cause of overdose deaths in America. As illicit fentanyl is now being laced into other drugs, more and more middle-class Americans are becoming addicted and even losing their lives. CGTN Stringer spoke to recovering addicts at St. John of God Health Care Services. “In one week, eight people died in my arms,” one recovering addict said. “I came from a good family and I had a good job … but fentanyl made my life go straight down.”
