Five people aboard a Japanese coastguard aircraft died when it hit a Japan Airlines passenger plane in a fiery collision at Tokyo’s Haneda airport on January 2, 2024. All 379 passengers and crew on board the Airbus A350 passenger plane were safely evacuated. However, only the pilot escaped from the coastguard aircraft that had been preparing to deliver supplies to Ishikawa prefecture after the deadly New Year’s Day earthquake. Airbus representatives from France said they would help with the investigation in person into the cause of the crash.
