Hundreds of Argentinians took to the streets on Sunday in Buenos Aires to celebrate the presidential election victory of Libertarian candidate Javier Milei and the defeat of Peronist Sergio Massa.
Supporters of the candidate at the Obelisk monument said they voted for the libertarian seeking a change for Argentina, and that they’ve had “enough of Peronism.”
Milei, who rode a wave of voter anger with the political mainstream, won by a wider-than-expected margin. He landed some 56% of the vote.
Milei is pledging economic shock therapy. His plans include shutting the central bank, ditching the peso, and slashing spending, potentially painful reforms that resonated with voters angry at the economic malaise.
