Boris Johnson has vowed to sidestep Vladimir Putin’s “blackmail” with a new energy security strategy he said will “bring nuclear home”.
Speaking at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, the Prime Minister said the policy would reduce reliance on Russia but denied he was doing nothing to help families in the short term.
He said: “This is about tackling the mistakes of the past and making sure that we are set well for the future and we are never again subject to the vagaries of the global oil and gas prices and we can’t be subject to blackmail, as it were, from people such as Vladimir Putin.
