In El Salvador, the population of the country’s new mega-prison is growing with a second group of 2,000 inmates transferred to the facility this week.
The prison is built to house 40,000 prisoners with each cell set to house 100 inmates, with just 80 bunks and only two sinks and two toilets.
But as Mike Armstrong explains, while the government insists the compound is needed for its war on gangs, critics say the crackdown comes with a cost.
