People flocked to the site of a horrific train crash in Egypt on Friday in an attempt to rescue any survivors of what appears to be a incredibly serious incident on Egypt’s rail lines.
The crash happened approximately 365 kilometers south of Cairo in the Nile-side city of Sohag, Egypt. At least 32 people were killed and 108 were injured in the crash, according to officials on Friday.
Authorities said “unknown individuals” triggered the emergency brakes on one of the trains, causing it to come to a stop. A second train, which was travelling in the same direction, then crashed into the first train from behind.
The public prosecutor’s office said Friday it has ordered an investigation into the crash.
Egypt has one of the oldest and largest rail networks region and accidents involving deaths are more common that in some other nations.
