Foreign secretary Dominic Raab said the UK will not recognise Afghanistan’s Taliban government.
However, the UK is prepared to have a constructive relationship with the militant group.
He was speaking in Islamabad during a joint news conference with Pakistan’s foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Mr Raab said the world has to “face up to the new reality in Afghanistan” following the withdrawal of Western troops and the Taliban takeover.
