Guardian News published this video item, entitled “‘Disaster on top of disaster’: Afghanistan struck by second earthquake” – below is their description.
Another deadly earthquake in western Afghanistan has increased the death toll to more than 3,000 people, according to Taliban officials. The 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit an area 28km (17 miles) south of Herat’s regional capital and came after another earthquake earlier this month. Nearly 2,000 houses have been destroyed in 20 villages, local authorities said, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. Aid agencies have said hospitals treating the injured have reached capacity, and have called on the international community to show ‘solidarity’ with Afghans. Philippe Kropf, head of communications for the World Food Programme, said: ‘Currently we have 15 million people who do not know where the next meal will come from and the World Food Programme is only able to support 3 million people due a massive funding shortfall’
