    The EU is holding a two-day meeting to resolve an impasse on several key issues. Among top issues, Eastern European leaders have expressed outrage the EU has not yet slapped sanctions on Belarus for its disputed election results, despite such moves from the UK and Canada. Yet as FRANCE 24 correspondent Dave Keating explains, Cyprus has made sanctions on Belarus conditional on the bloc slapping sanctions on Turkey for violating its territorial waters.

    The Republic of Cyprus is de facto partitioned into two main parts: the area under the effective control of the Republic, located in the south and west and comprising about 59% of the island’s area, and the north, administered by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, covering about 36% of the island’s area.
