Cuba’s National Rebellion Day: 70th anniversary of revolutionary attack

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Cuba’s National Rebellion Day: 70th anniversary of revolutionary attack” – below is their description.

It has been 70 years since late President Fidel Castro led an attack on a military base in eastern Cuba.

His attempt to incite an uprising against the government failed, but it is widely regarded as the spark for the 1959 revolution.

Decades later, battered by sanctions, high inflation and a sluggish economy, many Cubans are wondering whether it was all worthwhile.

That is the question Al Jazeera’s Ed Augustin put to people in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba.
