Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau provided a COVID-19 update on Wednesday as some provinces re-impose restrictions, including the return to online learning for students.
Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam will join Trudeau Wednesday morning for the first federal COVID-19 update of the new year.
In December, the federal government announced it was expanding eligibility for its Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit amid new Omicron-related COVID-19 restrictions. It allows any worker to apply for support if their workplace has been slapped with capacity-limiting restrictions of 50 per cent or more.
Eligible workers can receive $300 — $270 after taxes — for each one-week period until May 7, 2022. The expanded eligibility, however, only applies until Feb. 12, 2022.
To get the benefit, you’ll also need to have lost 50 per cent or more of your income as a result of these capacity limits, according to the government.
On Tuesday, Trudeau received his booster shot in Ottawa and again urged Canadians to get vaccinated as the Omicron variant causes case numbers to surge to new heights.
