Sky News published this video item, entitled “COVID-19 app users mistakenly told to isolate” – below is their description.
Sky News has found that some users of the NHS COVID-19 app were sent a ‘test’ message telling them to self-isolate. They were not told it was a test message and many of them did what the notification told them.

This report concludes by saying “we asked Apple and Google for comment” however, it should be noted, that, while those two firms provide the infrastructure on which this app was belatedly built, the implementation – the failed test notification – was specific to the English covid-19 app; therefore, the implementation was perhaps the more likely source of this error. Whoever developed the English app would perhaps have been a more appropriate person to comment on this failure. In this way, it would be like asking your phone manufacturer to comment on a text message you have mistakenly sent from your own device: a user error, not a systems failure.
