Coronavirus Updates: Trump Skips Mask on Honewell Tour, Urges Reopening Even If More Americans Die

President Trump declared Tuesday that the U.S. must begin to reopen its economy immediately, even if it means more Americans get sick and die from the coronavirus outbreak. Speaking with Native American leaders in Phoenix, Trump said that “some people will be affected badly, but I created the greatest economy in the history of the world. Now, it’s time to open up.”

Trump also confirmed that the White House would disband its coronavirus task force as he visited a Honeywell plant that has been making N95 respirators. He toured the factory wearing safety goggles but no mask. Earlier, Vice President Pence suggested the task force had met its goal of slowing the U.S. outbreak, the world’s largest with more than 1.2 million cases and more than 70,000 deaths.

Health officials have warned that the U.S. could see an uptick in cases and deaths as states allow businesses to reopen and people to venture out.
