Coronavirus: Johnson, Starmer weigh-in as Britain passes 100,000 total COVID-19 deaths

Global News published this video item, entitled “Coronavirus: Johnson, Starmer weigh-in as Britain passes 100,000 total COVID-19 deaths” – below is their description.

The sorrow of Britain’s COVID-19 death toll, which passed 100,000 on Tuesday, was hard to compute, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, adding that he takes “full responsibility for everything the government has done.”

“What I can tell you is that we truly did everything we could, and continue to do everything that we can, to minimize loss of life and to minimize suffering,” he added.

Meanwhile, Britain’s opposition Labour leader Keir Starmer said Tuesday that the government has been too slow to act to curb the spread of the virus from the onset of the pandemic.

“Our government has been behind the curve at every stage and that there’s been, if you like, a reluctance to take tough decisions when they needed to be taken. And here we are today,” Starmer said.

More than 100,000 Britons have died within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test, official data showed, a grim new milestone as the government battles to speed up vaccination delivery and keep variants of the virus at bay.
