Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, returned to China on Wednesday evening after a successful state visit to Vietnam. In his meeting with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong, Xi said China takes its relations with Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy. In a signed article published by the Nhan Dan Newspaper of Vietnam, Xi said, “We sincerely hope that our two nations will… steadily promote the building of a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.” The leaders of the two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on strategic issues and common concerns. Incidentally, this year marks the 15th anniversary of the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. China has been Vietnam’s biggest trading partner for years, and Vietnam is China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN. So what does President Xi’s state visit bring to already strong China-Vietnam relations?
