China is planning to open its Five-hundred-metre Aperture Spherical Telescope, or FAST, to international scientists who wish to carry out measurements. The world’s largest radio telescope, FAST can be used to observe the cosmos and celestial bodies for astronomical research. China opened up access to the facility after the world’s second-largest radio telescope, the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, collapsed on December 1. The move is reportedly a way for China to attract the top scientific talent from around the world and boost the nation’s scientific credentials.
