Sky News has witnessed migrants leaving the French coast in inflatable boats unchallenged by authorities as it head towards the UK’s shores.
Calm seas meant a record number of crossing attempts continue to be made and as winter approaches, the journey dangers are increasing.
The French authorities insist they are taking steps to stop boats crossing the Channel, including a number of operations since funding was agreed in July between the Home Office and its counterpart.
Sky’s Europe Correspondent Adam Parsons reports.
