CEO Mark Zuckerberg announces Facebook is becoming Meta

Daily Mail published this video item, entitled “CEO Mark Zuckerberg announces Facebook is becoming Meta” – below is their description.

After Mark Zuckerberg announced parent company Facebook Inc’s rebrand to Meta on Thursday the new name was immediately the subject of many memes (right). Twitter users played on the name by citing feta cheese and Metamucil while another said it was because ‘Zuckerberg never meta girl until college’. Others suggested Meta means the company is looking to steal ‘literally all of your metadata’. But Zuckerberg said that Meta refers to the ‘metaverse,’ which is the CEO’s newest venture into augmented reality and virtual world environments. It comes as the company is ensnared in controversy relating to whistleblower Frances Haugen’s leaked documents. Facebook’s flagship social media website, founded in 2004, will keep its name. Meta owns Instagram and WhatsApp, and is also building out virtual reality spaces like Horizon Worlds as part of its new ‘metaverse’.
