Captain Tom Moore has told the story of his part in the Second War as he recollects conscription, fighting on the frontline in Burma, Vera Lynn, and VE day.
The former British Army Officer who raised more than £30million for the NHS by walking 100 lengths of his garden with his frame and was awarded a Colonel’s rank shortly afterwards, fought in Burma and shares his memories of the conflict to draw attention to the “forgotten war” on the occasion.
Airing on VE Day’s 75th anniversary, just a week after his own centenary celebrations, in Captain Tom’s War, he looks back on his time during the War in the brutal Burma campaign, as a million Allied troops from 40 nations attempted to repel the invading forces of Imperial Japan from the British colony over almost three years, between 1942 and 1945.
Captain Tom’s War is on ITV at 8pm on Friday.
